Yes, there are still yellow leaves on the trees – even if there are not as many left as in this photo. I assume that it’s because it hasn’t really been cold yet and despite us having a lot of wind over the weekend.
Anyway, today was one of the more “heavy” days at work – not in any bad sense, just packed with information to take in at a marketing seminar looking at consumer trends all over the world in our particular busines. And actually one of the good days, indeed, because lots of colleagues from around the world had flown in – and it’s always one of my greater pleasures to say hello to good people I haven’t seen for quite a while. In some cases for far too long – but at least today gave a chance to do something about that.
So it was “Guten Morgen, wie geht’s dir?”, “Bonjour, ca va?”, “Hola, ¿Cómo estás?” and of course also “Hi there, good to see you, how are you?” Yes, I am a little more eloquent in English. And much more so than in Portuguese (ok, I can do “Bom Dia”…), Russian (ehhh… ) and whatever else we had represented there.
And then of course, because I am a self-confessed closet South European, kissing cheeks with the ladies from France, Argentina and a few other places, including actually Australia. Tough job – but somebody’s got to do it 😉
Don’t get me wrong – it’s just that on one hand I do feel very much at home and at ease with a culture that greets more warmly than the – admittedly – some times not cold but … very Nordic way: a handshake or even just a “Hi” in passing. And on the other that I count it as a blessing to work in a company where people as a natural thing forges that sort of friendships. And, well, I have been there for just short of 11 years, so I’ve had time to collect a few of these!
