Monday Motorway Music™, January 20 – Reminiscing

2014-01-20 12.53.00

But before I get to that – boy, it’s windy these days. Gray, slightly above freezing, dry when we are not having wet snow or sleet… Altogether a less than pleasant experience being outside and all the better to be inside.

But the live track in this mornings music stream made me start thinking about concert experiences and have some joy in remembering some of the good ones. Like the one in the picture above, Alphabeat at the end of the 2012 Danish Scouting Jamboree.

The first time, they say, is always special 😉 Mine was in Copenhagen at age 16ish, when I went with a friend to hear Styx – with Saga warming up. Both are still in my playlists!

The most spectacular must have been Pink Floyd’s original The Wall stage show in Earl’s Court in London in 1980 (yes, a while ago). Both music and visuals from the show actually are still in my mind – the plane coming down crashing right at the start, the wall being built and closed to the final words of Goodbye Cruel World:

Goodbye all you people
There’s nothing you can say
To make me change
My mind
Goodbye.

– and the last brick slammed shut and we were looking at a vast, white wall. Not to mention Dave Gilmour’s solo in Comfortable Numb, played standing on the top of the wall with one sharp beam of light from behind him so that his shadow was dancing in the air all the way out across Earl’s Court.

Surely others, too. Springsteen (twice) always delivers a rock solid (pun intended) show. Eurythmics, only band I’ve seen three times and would so again if only for Annie Lennox’ vocals should they ever decide to do so. Kiss – I kid you not. Diana Krall (just to change genre). Supertramp the evening before a four hour written exam in Organic Chemistry (got third-highest mark possible – music is good for you!). Runrig, Toto, Tina Turner, Genesis (me, child of the 80s?). And, of course, a load of local Danish names, rock as well as jazz. And surely contemplating a day at the Roskilde Festival this year to go for Arctic Monkies.

Yep, I like music 🙂

Get Up Offa That Thing – James Brown
Shout Now – Melissa Etheridge
Mandagsstævnemøde – Ray Dee Oh
Hideaway – Corrs
Missionary Man (Live) – Eurythmics
Can I Have A Kiss – Kelly Clarkson
I’m The Only One – Melissa Etheridge
Tomorrow’s Girls – Donald Fagen
