Monday Motorway Music™, February 11 – a thought or two on humour

Quite some time ago – we’re talking months and likely years – we were walking somewhere locally, and my daughter sort of looked sideways at me and said “I’m not schizophrenic. And neither am I…”

Now, I would be the last to mock sufferers from any disease of body or mind – after all, I do have a near relative with an Alzheimer’s diagnosis. But neither do I believe that there are very many topics that humour should stay off, as long as it is not specifically targeted at belittling anyone.

Humour is the great equaliser – I vividly recall a caller to a TV program once. The program aimed at installing a certain level of political correctness – and the oh, so correct hosts and well-knowns in the studio were derailed a bit when this lady called in and said that she was handicapped and a wheel-chair user and she for one would not feel normal and accepted on an equal basis until people made as much fun of her as they would every one else.

Just a wee thought for a Monday morning – and a bit of music to go along with that, none of which is funny in or by itself. But hopefully, the music – like laughing – can make you feel a little bit calmer and better on the start of a fresh, new week.
